In due honor, we are delighted to forward to you our project branded as

MUBENDE FOUNDATION CENTRE FOR ORPHANS

Orphanage and our proposal draft plan to enhance our activities.

M.F.F.O.C recognizes that children are the future leaders of tomorrow, and are often the most vulnerable group in society; especially those children from traumatized or disadvantaged families whose parents passed/died of the dangerous HIV/AIDS scourge. M.F.F.O.C endeavors to provide health services, educational services, and parental care to many such children in order to meet their physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional needs.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

MUBENDE FOUNDATION CENTRE FOR ORPHANS

CHILDREN’S ORPHANAGE is an orphanage operating in the sub county of Kanyale. We wish to provide the only community medical clinics in this extremely remote area. This Christian Founded Project was founded in 2005, and since then has been carrying on a number of Orphanage aid activities with special emphasis on HIV/AIDS orphans.

Due to neglect at home, the children always roamed and wondered around very dirty and miserable, so we endeavored to find means of helping them out of the misery.

We started with a handful orphans whose parents passed/died of the dangerous HIV/AIDS scourge, fed them, taught them word of God, and taught them how to bathe and wash their clothes.

With the help of volunteers the M.F.F.O.C takes in all kinds of children, and makes efforts to provide them with basic needs every year.

Our goal is to bring in more of these needy children and try to provide them ‘a home away from home’ and make them forget their worries and heal their traumas.

STATUS/ACHIEVEMENTS

Our orphanage recognizes that children are the future leaders of tomorrow and are often the most vulnerable group in society especially those from traumatized or disadvantage families.

We therefore try our level best to give them an unlimited attention, with special emphasis on talent which we hope is the best way to erase their traumas. We have formed such groups as dance & drama where we try to bring back the joy and happiness lost as a result of being orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Below are some of the photos depicting how joyous the children are at such times;

M.F.F.O.C therefore, provides health services, educational services and parental care to many such children in order to meet their physical, spiritual and emotional needs according to Mathew 19:13 – 14

Some children were brought to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. The disciples told them not to bother him. But Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:13-14

Work at M.F.F.O.C is spearheaded by Rev. Semwogerere Francis who together with the currently labour force of up to 7 volunteers has the focus of increasing up to at least 10 -15 people.

G.M.J.C.O’s main aim is to help the HIV/AIDS vulnerable group in society especially those from traumatized or disadvantage families.

We are currently not an independent organisation but rather, run all the activities and work under the umbrella of the local church which itself has no external support from any overseas organisation but would very much wish to do so.

G.M.J.C.O specifically addresses the problem of HIV and AIDS with special consideration of the orphans and children living with HIV and AIDS.

We put special emphasis on feeding and nurturing these children to the best of our ability so that we can give them a home.

The meals are cooked with the use of firewood for fuel. The heat and smoke in the kitchen can be overwhelming, but the cooks do their work diligently.

Sometimes cooking for over 100 children can be a challenge.  Many wooden spoons have been broken while stirring the huge pot of Ugali (stiff cornmeal).

In a bid to provide safe drinking water and cater for the health needs, the project has been able to dig a bore hole and we continue with nutritional surveys, emergency food drops, and a vigorous campaign for more boreholes to provide adequate safe drinking water.

AIMS

M.F.F.O.C, being an orphanage operating in a rural area looks forward to so many changes and developments especially as involves dealing with the HIV/AIDS scourge and its effects among the children.

This perforates a gap to be filled by equipping and upgrading of the current volunteers to get a more skilled man power.

It is quite a challenge for the teachers to try and understand each child. Many of the children are neglected at home, and this interferes with the child’s capacity to learn quickly. This leaves the teachers with the responsibility to act as parents who can teach, love, discipline and nurture the children. Because of the loving dedication their teachers show, many of the children enjoy attending the children & they enjoy many positive experiences.

This is where M.F.F.O.C makes an alarm for support to train more Counselors and equip them in the field of catering and dealing more effectively with HIV/AIDS patients and those traumatized by the scourge as this will be the only way in which we will be able to effectively capture and venture in this field which many have instead turned to a business venture.

With effective training, re-enforcement and thorough screening of the counselors, doctors, nurses (volunteers), we assume that within the shortest period of time probably months; depending on how fast and effective the process of training will be, we shall have wiped the trauma and fear from our clients and the entire community of Kanyale and areas the around.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

  • To provide food clothes and shelter to the needy children and HIV/AIDS orphans.
  • To provide scholastic materials and a godly environment for the children.
  • To provide some medication to the HIV/AIDS infected children and the orphans.
  • To create a room for courage about God’s love among the traumatized children.
  • To counsel and guide those children whose hope is diminishing, claiming that the lord is delaying to do them good. Thus not give up.

PROJECT GOALS

  • To retain and sustain members with better standards of livings.
  • To increase on the income generating resources for the needy.
  • To build a strong foundation of God’s love to his people among the orphans and the needy children at large.
  • To teach and preach the gospel as well as act as parents who can teach, love, discipline and nurture the children.

    FUTURE PLAN

  • M.F.F.O.C dreams of setting up a better teaching and learning environment (school) to enable the children get a quality and more organized education other than the current setup where there is no classification but children are simply put in a class without any differentiations in standard (baby class – Level 4) as shown in pix iv below;
  • We also dream of constructing better shelters both for school and residing. This is because despite the efforts put, the current shelters don’t seem to cater for the population to the desired standard, just as evident in Pix v below;
  • There are quite a number of children whose parents have never been able to enroll them in any kind of school, because they don’t have the money to pay school fees. These are the children who grow up not knowing how to read and write or do arithmetic. It is a joy when at least 100 children below the age of 7 years are able to join the M.F.F.O.C

    We look forward to bringing in more such children and in 1 – 2 years, send

    them to some of the government schools in the area.

  • M.F.F.O.C plans to improve the kind of meals provided for the children in order to match the health standard with the education standards so as to produce better results among the children and counter the HIV/AIDS effects on their physical and emotional set up.
  • Children need clothing and so we try all means to find a way of providing for this pressing need which has been seeing many of them walking naked as a result of neglect caused by the death of parents/relatives to AIDS
  • There are no roads or infrastructure; the only way is by foot.

We need to get Primary Health Care Units (PHCU) as one of the goals. M.F.F.O.C is targeting to start a clinic site with professionally trained staff. The PHCU’s will provide the medicines and supervision for the clinic and the will provide reporting information to the PHCU. The difference between the Clinic and the Unit will be the presence of professionally qualified staff and equipment at the Clinic, while the Unit will have Community Health Worker (CHW) with a basic medicine kit. G.M.J.C.O will modified this approach with the addition of secondary sites around the Primary Health Care Clinic in case of evacuation. With this model, we will have to evacuate sites completely when the area becomes insecure, which is a common occurrence due to the ongoing situations.
